Do I Need to Pay a Real Estate Guru to Be Successful?
The sheer number of mentorship programs available on the Internet, it’s very easy for novice investors to get the wrong impression that they need a real estate guru to be successful. The truth of the matter is that it is not a requirement – many of the greatest real estate investors were self-made men. They did not pay a real estate guru to be successful.
It also helps to keep in mind that many of the so-called gurus you will encounter online are asking you to pay a hefty sum in exchange for things that are too good to be true. You know the type: they sell you in on the promise of fast riches, sports cars, easy money, early retirement as a millionaire, and so on.
And you can easily see the kind of services they offer. It’s almost always techniques that are stuck behind various paywalls:
- expensive courses
- mentorship programs
- bootcamps
- seminars
- online coaching, etc.
You can easily see that many of the tactics being sold are already well-documented and found for free somewhere else on the Internet.
You also need to follow the money trail. It’s not just these gurus that benefit from their marketing services. There are thousands of affiliate marketers who advertise and resell these services in exchange for a commission.
You Don’t Really Need to Pay a Real Estate Guru to Be Successful
You will get some much needed perspective if you look at these gurus’ business model: you don’t really have any proof that they are generating revenue from all the strategies, tricks, and techniques they are teaching you. Instead, it looks more like they get all of their money from subscription fees, mentoring subscriptions, seminar tickets, ebook sales. If you look at it that way, it looks more like a con than an actual key to success.
That being said, these guys are not all snake oil salesmen. Some of them do have knowledge and are very good salesmen, marketers, and businessmen. The problem is that you’re as likely to find a guru who just wants to fleece you as you are of finding an actual mentor.
The secret is that you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on these gurus. You can find many of the information they teach all over the net, for free. You may find legit mentors out there, but you always need to be careful and avoid being gullible. Healthy skepticism is a skill that will benefit you as a real estate investor, and that is a skill something that you will have to learn on your own.
